Help Welcome Refugee Families Home

Walk. Ride. Make a Difference.

Every year, hundreds of refugee claimants arrive in Metro Vancouver seeking safety. But without a place to live, many spend their first nights in Canada in fear and uncertainty, living in shelters or on benches. No one should start their new life this way.

You can make it so that no one has to.

The Ride for Refuge is a national walk and bike fundraiser that supports organisations like Journey Home Community, which help people seek safety and refuge.

This fun, family-friendly event is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year—and we’d love to have you join us!

Why It Matters

A mother fleeing persecution arrives in Canada, pregnant and alone. With nowhere to go, she spends her first few nights sleeping at the airport.

Meanwhile, another newcomer family is discharged from the hospital with a newborn but no housing. They struggle to access basic necessities, and now they have a vulnerable new life to care for.

These aren’t stories—they’re the reality for too many refugee claimants arriving in Canada today.

Refugees face enormous challenges. They arrive filled with hope but lacking housing, community, and stability. The first few weeks can shape the rest of their lives in Canada.

That’s where you come in.

Will you partner with us to welcome and love the stranger, feed the hungry, and provide a place of refuge for those in need?

For 20 years, Journey Home Community has been welcoming refugee claimants into safe transitional housing and a caring support network. We walk with families as they move from homelessness to independence, offering:

  • Short-term housing in our Welcome Homes

  • Wraparound settlement support

  • Community connections and friendships

  • Help finding permanent, affordable housing

You can help make that welcome possible. You don’t need to fix the refugee system—you can make a powerful impact simply by joining our annual Ride for Refuge fundraiser.

What’s at Stake

Without help, refugee families will continue arriving in Canada with nowhere to sleep. They’ll remain in shelters or on the street, facing a continuation of the fear and hopelessness they fled from in the first place.

You can rewrite that story—one ride, one step, one donation at a time.

“You didn’t just help us with housing—you helped us feel like we were home.”

— A Journey Home participant
