Sessions will include:
1) An overview of who we are at Journey Home - our history, mission, vision, and values
2) Who qualifies as a "refugee claimant" and what the settlement process in Canada entails
3) Culture Shock and Mental Wellness
4) A Refugee Story: Hear from a member of our community as they detail their own journey
5) Mutually-transformative relationships: volunteerism, boundaries and cross-cultural relationships
This orientation is the first step in entering into community with members of Journey Home's refugee community.
The Orientations is for two groups of people:
1) Individuals or groups volunteering with Journey Home Community (complimentary registration). This includes church/community partners in JHC's "Communities of Welcome for Refugee Claimants" initiative.
2) Individuals or groups (not formally partnering or volunteering with Journey Home) who are interested in learning about refugee claimants and welcoming refugees. ($40 REGISTRATION FEE - DETAILS ON EVENTBRITE).
