World Refugee Sunday
Love the stranger. Live the welcome. Refugee Sunday is a call to prayer and action for those traveling the refugee highway in search of safety.
God’s Call
World Refugee Sunday is held annually on the Sundays before and after June 20 (UN World Refugee Day) to remember this need and to participate in prayer and action, responding in practical ways to God’s call to "love the stranger as yourself."
We embrace
biblical teaching
to welcome the stranger.
As the Church, the gathered people of God, we are inspired by God’s generous heart to love and welcome the refugee (Leviticus 19:33-34; Matthew 25:35).
Often, we don’t know how to do this well. Our congregations do not have opportunity to regularly interact with those who have been forcibly displaced or who are seeking refugee protection. When we do, cultural and language barriers often prevent us from understanding tangible needs and offering practical hospitality.
Our Invitation.
Journey Home Community is offering our support to your congregation. For the past 20 years, we have been walking beside churches and inviting you to be involved in the ministry of welcoming the newcomer. Together, we have welcomed more than 750 families and 1900 individuals with housing, settlement support, community care. Our inspiration is the love of God. He loves us and therefore, we want to practically love our neighbours.
In 2026, we are inviting you to acknowledge and prioritize World Refugee Sunday to call your community to prayer and support of vulnerable individuals who travel the refugee highway seeking safety. To support you we have ready-made resources which we hope you will find useful.
