Your Gift Today Gives a Newly Arrived Family Their First Safe Night in Canada
Right now, families are stepping off planes in Vancouver with almost nothing—no home, no community, and no idea where to go next.
Some have fled conflict. Some escaped persecution. Many arrive exhausted, scared, and carrying only what they could manage.
But what happens next depends entirely on someone’s generosity.
And tonight, that someone can be you.
This fall, at a community dinner, one mother wrote these words on a paper maple leaf.
“I’m thankful I have a roof over the heads of my children.”
She arrived with her children, terrified and unsure of what their first night in Canada would look like.
They slept safely because someone gave.
Tonight, another family will arrive with the same fear—and you can give them safety too.
Why Your Gift Matters
Journey Home Community must raise $182,000 by December 31 to make sure every newly arrived family has:
Safe transitional housing so no one spends their first night in Canada in an airport, park, or hospital waiting room
Orientation and settlement support to help families navigate life in a new country
Casework guidance and referrals so they can access vital services
A welcoming community where healing, friendship, and belonging begin
Your gift provides the safety net families depend on in their most vulnerable moments.
Your Impact This Year
Because of people like you:
154 individuals welcomed into community
66 households moved from homelessness into safe transitional housing
7,632 meals provided
380 learning class registrations
200 volunteers building community
$138,000+ raised through Ride for Refuge
You’re part of a growing movement ensuring that refugee claimants find real belonging in Metro Vancouver.
Community Is Where Belonging Begins
Community is at the heart of every family’s journey with Journey Home. At our recent community dinner, more than fifty newcomers gathered around tables filled with food, laughter, and gratitude—dancing together as a newly arrived family played Kurdish music.
Moments like these show how healing begins when people feel safe, welcomed, and surrounded by others who understand their story. Throughout the year, volunteers, neighbours, and supporters like you helped welcome 154 individuals, shared over 7,600 meals, and created spaces where friendship and belonging can grow.
When you give, you’re not just providing housing—you’re helping build a community where families can finally breathe, connect, and feel at home.
Make Your Year-End Gift
When you give today, you help create the moments that matter most—
a safe night of sleep, a stocked pantry, a warm welcome, and a community that feels like home.
Give now and help welcome more families before December 31.

Legacy Gifts
The sad reality is that refugee claimant families will continue to arrive on our shores having fled from danger and persecution. The need to support these vulnerable families is not going away. Journey Home plans to be there for arriving refugees, providing housing, support and community for years to come.
You can create a legacy of hope for arriving refugee claimants with a legacy gift through your will, or through a gift of publicly-traded securities, such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds. Such gifts are also an effective way to give, as they are not subject to costly capital gains taxes, and donors can receive a tax credit for their generous gifts.
